What are your morning rituals? What does the first hour of your day look like?

My mornings are all just about the same. It’s not actually as boring as it sounds.

I love my morning ritual and am trying to stick to it as much as possible.

Regardless of the week day, I always make sure I am awake at least thirty minutes before everyone else. It’s all in those precious moments when it’s so quiet and peaceful and I can be more me than at any moment in the day. I wake up, put the kettle on, make sure I put away dishes that were left in the dryer the night before. I take all my vitamins and prepare my coffee (decaf these days) .

There is nothing better than the smell of fresh coffee sending energy through all senses. Opening the windows and feeling the crisp morning air on my skin. There is this massive tree outside my window and most mornings I can hear squirrels arguing. They make me smile. They are noisy but, oh so sweet. I love watching them jump from a branch to another, eating their nuts and chasing pigeons.

Living in UK , we don’t quite see lots of sun or blue skies but I got used to the grey and am trying to se the beauty in everything.

This takes me around fifteen minutes. I then write my Instagram story which is in a way my planner. This allows some time for my coffee to cool down and get to that perfect temperature. So, I drink my coffee while doing my Wordle and Connections and here we are …. time to wake up my daughter and get her ready for school (if it’s a weekend I just let her sleep)

On weekends I usually have the full hour alone. Saturdays I wake up at 6am to make sure I can go for a run and be back before everyone wakes up or at least shortly after they do. On Sunday it’s the 6:30am wake up to get ready for Junior Parkrun where I volunteer every week while my daughter is running.

My morning routine is one I have been preserving for years and will always stick to. I don’t have a facial nor a workout in my first hour awake. I like to allow my body to realise what time of day it is. Exercise comes right after and I love it. Facial? Kind of never to be honest. If I go out, I’ll put some make up on. Otherwise, maybe a face cream if I feel like my face is a bit dry.

I love motivational videos or posts in the morning to set my mind on a positive trajectory. Makes me more determined and allows me to push myself when I feel like giving up. A bit of Mel Robbins is all one needs to start the day. I open my eyes and think: “5,4,3,2,1 … wake up” . You don’t need to lie down and snooze that alarm. I always hated the snooze button to be fair but clearly knowing how it affects your day, makes me jump out of bed even quicker than before.

I love the motivational quotes related to running. They get me into a great mindset and I like to remind myself that I can go forwards even when my mind says stop.
